With the collapse of the Roman Empire it was the Celtic Church which kept the flame of Christianity burning brightly. Missionaries travelled throughout Europe in their battle to dispel the darkness of paganism and eventually Ireland became known as the ‘Land of Saints and Scholars’.
C.S.Lewis was born and raised in Belfast before studying at Oxford and becoming a Professor at Cambridge. Converted in 1929 he became the author of many Christian books still read today by millions worldwide. His home, church and memorial statue can be visited in Belfast today.
The heritage of Ireland is here to explore – ancient Churches, Castles, burial sites, the associations with Saint Patrick.
There are sites of great revivals and churches vibrant with God’s Spirit working today. Ireland is, of course, more than a site to be visited , but a society to be lived in, experienced and ministered to.
Our students engage in that society in practical training for a variety of ministries of their choice – street witnessing, small groups in churches, children’s and youth work.
